The boyish quality in Lloyd James's narrating style is easy enough to hear. He's believable as he modulates his pacing and tone to match the intensity of the writing. But his vocal tone sounds too naïve for an assertive relationship guide who asks couples to take charge of their anger and their reactions to anger. The authors base their lesson on the conventional wisdom of secular relationship therapy, codependency thinking, and the psychology of individual vulnerabilities. Biblical references combine with revealing personal vignettes about their own trials with anger to give the lesson warmth and a reasonable spiritual context. This well-crafted guide will give listeners more emotional insight and help them feel less helpless and more forgiving toward loved ones who push their buttons.
