NEWS OF THE UNIVERSE

by | Read by Robert Bly

Poetry & Drama • 3 hrs. • Anthology • © 1980

Robert Bly has chronologically organized a collection of poems relating to ecology beginning with the eighteenth century with an excerpt from Alexander Pope's "Essay on Man." Bly, a poet himself, has chosen wonderful representative works from such poets as Blake, Whitman, and Frost. His nasal voice is not the usual mellifluous tone associated with professional readers of poetry. Several readings are enhanced by musical accompaniment -- a pleasant addition which supports Bly's rather flat timbre. To keep both the chronological and philosophical orientation, Bly intersperses commentary to this varied collection from Pope to Eskimo shaman.
