THE BOY IN THE BUBBLE

by | Read by Brigit Forsyth

Children • 4.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1993

Sweet, funny, sad and heartwarming, this is the most unusual story of first love you're ever likely to encounter. Brigit Forsyth delivers an enthusiastic reading of the story of Anne, tall, thin, flat-chested and sarcastic, and Adam, a lonely, brilliant boy suffering from a blood disease and confined to life in a plastic bubble. Forsyth's pace is quick, light and cheerful before Adam's situation turns dire. Later passages are read more somberly. Perhaps the only flaw is her interpretation of the Japanese researcher, Mr. Komoto, whose few lines she reads in a forced and faulty accent. Nevertheless, teen listeners will enjoy the unusual situation and its honest approach to adolescent feelings about love, self-image and sexuality.
