Anthony Burton does theatrical regional accents as he creates delightfully entertaining scoundrels, engineers, bankers, and members of Parliament, who all become mixed up in the new business destined to make the Victorian island smaller and wealthier. The greatest entrepreneur/engineer of these early years was Robert Stephenson, and much of the story revolves around his life and contributions to the creation of "the iron horse." J.A.H.
