A DIFFERENT WAR

by | Read by Stephen Thorne

Mystery & Suspense • 15.2 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1997

Thomas brings back the American flyer Mitchell Gant, who starred in FIREFOX, which became a Clint Eastwood movie. Here Gant tries to help an industrialist whose planes are being sabotaged by a British competitor. The action is frequent and sometimes absurd. Reader Stephen Thorne brings an overall British ambience to the book, appropriate despite the American protagonists. He narrates in a slow, cultured British voice and distinguishes the characters by changes in accent and tone. Women speak more softly and higher. The men are faster, gruffer, more guttural. Thorne is good with foreign accents, especially a bad Scot and his French henchman. Thorne and the book are a nice fit. D.W. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 02]
