2008 Best Voice in Young Adult: MIMUS by Lilli Thal; SEBASTIAN DARKE by Philip Caveney
Wonderful anecdotes emerge when we ask narrators how audiobooks or storytelling first came into their lives. Maxwell Caulfield began his narrative career entertaining his elementary-school chums with a daily serial of a never-ending foot race. Maxwell commits himself fully to each book and when he emerges from the recording booth, “I feel I’ve gone on a journey.” He likes to find a synergy with an author’s work, as he has with Ian McEwan’s two audiobooks, ENDURING LOVE and AMSTERDAM . Maxwell brought his sensibility for elite British schools and an interest in Africa to his performance of THE MIND GAME , by Hector MacDonald, the title we celebrate in this issue. [JUN/JUL 2002]
