REMEMBER BEN CLAYTON

by | Read by George Guidall

Fiction • 13.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2011

We meet Ben Clayton briefly at the book’s opening in the bloody bombed-out trenches of WWI France. The scene then shifts to Texas, years later, where Ben’s father wants to celebrate his dead son’s life by commissioning a statue from nationally celebrated artist “Gil” Gilheaney. AUDIOFILE Golden Voice George Guidall does a masterful job skipping among the novel’s many time shifts and multiple characters. His voice resonates with strength, intensity, and humanity as each character’s longings and long-buried secrets are revealed. Harrigan's lyrical prose and detailed descriptions of Texas and Texas history, as well as his insights into people’s motives, insecurities, and memories, provide Guidall with rich material, which he handles with intelligence. Harrigan’s engrossing storytelling and Guidall’s excellent narration offer worthwhile listening. S.J.H. 2013 Audies Finalist © AudioFile 2012, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2012]
