THE TRIAL OF FALLEN ANGELS

Thérèse Plummer gives a sensitive performance of Kimmel’s intriguing blend of mystery, theology, and humanity. Lawyer Brek Cuttler finds herself alone on a bench in an empty train station wearing her favorite suit and covered in blood. She has no idea how she got there or where she is. Plummer makes Brek’s confusion palpable as bits of her life fall into place. In Shemaya, a sort of Purgatory, Brek becomes counsel for souls that are facing their Final Judgment. She is able to access their memories by personally experiencing their lives. Plummer’s performance brings a credible voice to each of the souls she inhabits, and, as Brek discovers answers to her own mystery, Plummer deftly handles the many lengthy deliberations regarding justice and forgiveness.
