Narrator Profile

Daniel Oreskes

Daniel Oreskes describes himself as “a theater guy” with Broadway (“Electra,” “Aida”) and Off-Broadway (Arthur Miller’s “Mr. Peter’s Connections”) credits and numerous Shakespeare performances. A native New Yorker, Dan trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and is new to audiobooks. His classical training taught him to love “the structure of line, and the repetition of sound.” It also seems to have led the actor to what we hope will be an active career in audiobooks. His first audiobook, THE HOUSE OF SCORTA, receives an Earphones Award. It’s terrifically hard to succeed with a first audiobook and to know what elements to bring to the performance. Dan tells us his specialty is “the emotional lives of characters,” and this subjective approach is obviously right. “I let the character talk like the way they feel about things,” he says. Dan is a commanding presence as he gives voice to peasants and priests, yet complements Barbara Caruso’s portrait of a matriarch. Dan’s second book, SUITE FRANCAISE, should also get listeners’ attention: He performs this powerful two-part novel of life in France under the Nazi occupation in another ensemble performance with Barbara Rosenblat.
