Jennifer Ikeda
Brings a fresh young voice to young adult titles including Sarah Dessen’s JUST LISTEN and Joyce Carol Oates’s AFTER THE WRECK, I PICKED MYSELF UP, SPREAD MY WINGS, AND FLEW AWAY. --2007 Narrator Yearbook
California native Jennifer Ikeda brings a fresh, young voice to her audiobooks. She's been recording since 2002, when a classmate from Julliard suggested she audition at Recorded Books. One of her first titles was WHEN MY NAME WAS KEOKO, a recording that's been on our Audiobooks on the Go summer reading list. Jennifer has a natural understanding of the rhythms of Asian speech patterns. Although she never studied the Japanese language, she spent time with her Japanese grandmother. While she's relatively new to audiobook recording, Jennifer loves the challenge. She says, "I love to immerse the listener in the story, to reach people with my voice as my only tool." When Jennifer read Joyce Carol Oates's AFTER THE WRECK, I PICKED MYSELF UP, SPREAD MY WINGS, AND FLEW AWAY, she was immediately engaged by the writing style and could see how it was a perfect title for audio. "The main character goes in and out of stream of consciousness; it's a vivid, emotional journey. I felt an urgency to do well with this powerful work." A current project--Jennifer is touring with Neil Bartlett's new stage drama of Oliver Twist.
