Victoria becomes executor of her rich aunt's will, an easy job, seeing as the fortune is to be divided equally between two daughters. But then a stranger shows up with a claim to the whole shebang. Upon investigation, Victoria uncovers some shocking secrets, including family guilt during the Holocaust. This is a witty, suspenseful, elegantly written mystery with psychological depth and well-delineated characters. Penelope Freeman reads in a mellifluous, patrician style. Unfortunately, while she knows what the words mean, she has no idea what the book is about or who the characters are. Hers is a very lazy job of work that disserves an exceptional piece of fiction.
