Marc D. Johnson adds drama and emotion to Smith-Levin's well-defined characters. Homicide Detective Starletta Duvall and partner Dominic Parisi are trying to solve three grisly murders near a prep school. In the course of the investigation, Johnson is called upon to find voices with Brooklyn, New Jersey, and upper-class Massachusetts accents for male and female, adolescent, and middle-aged characters. He rises to the challenge and uses a range of voices with unique pacing and pitch, never seeming rushed or strained. Because of Johnson's skilled reading, listeners will find Star; her lover and the coroner, Dr. Grant; and Dominic fascinating and intriguing and will want to hear more. S.C.A.
