BLUES FROM DOWN DEEP

Forster's story of an African-American woman searching for her roots has a few surprises. To start, the heroine is from Hawaii, where African-Americans are a minority. By the end of the audiobook she has discovered her own history, created a definition of family that unites all her desires for community, and brought together her own splintered family. Sharon Washington has a wonderful voice but lacks the ability to create distinct characters with it. In a situation like this, the listener is the loser.
