LET ME TELL YOU A STORY A Lifetime in the Game

Red Auerbach has been synonymous with the Boston Celtics since 1950, so it's not surprising that he's got a half-century's worth of basketball stories. Most of the sections of this recording begin with the phrase, "Did I ever tell you about...." It's a formula that threatens to get tedious. Here's the funny thing, though: It doesn't. Auerbach's stories, as related through author John Feinstein, are witty, observant, and well told. Narrator Arnie Mazer's voice is just right for the two of them, making Auerbach come across not as a man living in the past, but as a likable, generous, and dryly funny guy whose friends and memories are the most important things in his life.
