Although they'll probably figure out most of the plot twists long before the protagonists do, fans of "The X-Files" will enjoy this conspiracy thriller, which has all the elements of the popular series: a secret cabal of top leaders, macabre experiments, paranoia and a mystery that hits close to home for the protagonist, newspaper reporter Jude Harley. Frank Muller's narration lends a sense of menace and foreboding to Harley's investigation of a cloning experiment on a Georgia island. Muller gives Harley's voice a soft-spoken, almost naive quality. Judicious abridgment and Muller's narration help the listener past the novel's all-too-neat escapes and revelations. J.A.S. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 00]
