Walter Rothschild's life as an Egyptologist under contract to the British Museum isn't normally very lively, he says, but a mysterious woman who visits the museum with him and steals a valuable scroll without his knowledge could change all that. To get it back before he takes the fall, Rothschild is forced to deal with a cult that wants the translation for its own purposes. Paul Michael reads Rothschild’s character with the air of an academic finding adventure for the first time, but with a slight edge that hints at the researcher's own dark soul. Michael also shines with more lyrical passages, both "translations" and bits that put Rothschild's thoughts into poetic form. J.A.S. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 05]
