It would take a strong individual to pioneer across a young America, so it makes sense that an audiobook detailing this experience would feature a narrator with a confident, steely voice. Cassandra Campbell's strength is her adept and bold maneuvering of a challenging text that is carefully descriptive and action-oriented by turns. The novel itself needs no added drama, so it's appropriate that Campbell's performance is understated in its charactersý voices, and vocal transitions. Listeners do not need a myriad of voices to follow what unfolds in the plot; instead they benefit from a consistent, measured reading as they journey along with the westward travelers.
