Listeners will have to have good Texas self-esteem to not feel a bit bullied by this recording. Eyes will roll as Dr. Phil pitches his advice on parenting with his trademark overconfidence and occasional bluster. But it's well thought-out and near impossible to disagree with his views on society's deterioration, the many ways we avoid the work of parenting, and how a consciously managed family can help children. The program is astute, and the advice on children of divorce and blended families could be a useful book in itself. C.J. Prater's tone is sharp but not strident; he varies his pacing and intensity with Dr. Phil's writing, only occasionally overpowering even this material.
