THE HUNT CLUB

Neil Patrick Harris displays considerable skill in his narration of Lott's complex and involving coming-of-age story. Completely believable as the novel's 15-year-old narrator, Huger Dillard, he also portrays a range of adult characters ably. Huger's discovery of a headless corpse with skinned hands on the morning of a deer hunt begins a chain of events that will threaten his life and his definition of his world. Besides perfectly capturing the emotions of a young man facing terrifying and life-changing situations, Harris also manages to organically create a sense of place through regional speech that seems perfectly natural.
