This CD contains four dramatic prose poems for radio by Paul Berge, whose passion is flying small aircraft. The material explores the romance and mysticism of living, loving, and dying in the clouds. A broadcast personality in Iowa, Berge and fellow members of the so-called Rejection Slip Theater perform with considerable expression and fervor. Tasteful sound and music backgrounds enhance mood and atmosphere. The author's love of his own schmaltzy eloquence exceeds even his passion for flight. He knows neither when to stop nor how to organize his thoughts coherently. He convinces us that he has experienced airborne ecstasy without actually giving us a taste of it. Perhaps pilots of two- and four-seaters will appreciate these pieces more than the rest of us. Y.R. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/ MAY 08]
