MISS MACKENZIE

Miss Mackenzie, still single at 35, inherits a small fortune, acquires three suitors and many "kind" relations, most desirous of her new wealth. Trollope's touching saga shows a slice of Victorian England. Narrator Donada Peters establishes superlative characterizations; her expressive contralto allows for strong interpretations of a myriad of men and women. Her use of accents, emotions and breathiness is key to her memorable voices--for example, surrounding the steadfast, sincere alto of Miss Mackenzie are the aristocratic, round tones of Lady Ball; the sermon-like, grave voice of Reverend Maguire; and the warm, Scottish lilt of cousin Mackenzie.
