RATTLESNAKE CROSSING

Joanna Brady, single mom and sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona, becomes a very multifaceted character in Yancy Butler's portrayal. Butler, a TV and film actor, reads in a throaty contralto, perfectly suited to the sheriff. As other characters are introduced--her daughter, Jenny; her friends, Butch, Jeff and MaryAnn; co-workers and suspects--they're easily distinguished by Butler's tones, volume, inflection and pacing. A serial killer is on the loose; and though early evidence points to Alton Hosfield, a bitter rancher at odds with the federal government, environmentalists and new-comers, the surprising, dramatic ending shocks everyone.
