BLAST FROM THE PAST

A British former hippie activist and full-time scatterbrain is being pestered by a harmless but annoying stalker. If that's not enough to complicate her life, the reactionary American officer who summarily jilted her a decade ago reappears on her doorstep. Comedian/playwright Elton develops this circumstance into a light comic novel, adorned with singularly strong writing. In his turn, reader Maloney turns lively prose into a livelier performance. His characterizations are clever and his narrative dramatic. He has thrown himself energetically into this book, giving himself--and the listener--a jolly good time. Y.R.
