TURMOIL AND TRIUMPH

Jonathan Reese provides us with a competent, but uninspired, rendering of former Secretary of State Shultz's political biography of the Reagan years. Shultz, who was also Secretary of the Treasury under Nixon and held other high-level business and governmental positions, gives us in-depth views of complex negotiations and international situations. Reese reads slowly, his deep voice carrying some expression, but this is not a book for lively emoting. Reese tries but doesn't succeed at performing the monotonous text.
