The story is right out of 1940s pulp fiction: Monsters are real, so the world creates mercenaries to hunt them. During a monster hunter conference in Las Vegas, a creature goes on a rampage, and several competing teams of hunters vie to capture it. But a larger threat emerges: An ancient god awakens and seeks to end the world. Oliver Wyman narrates the entire tale with a swagger in his voice. Even the chapter headings sound aggressive. His characters are so unique that at times listeners may think there's a second narrator. But while his men are all fully credible, one small flaw is that his women tend to sound breathy.
