Gwen Markham, like her father, is a practical girl who believes in a rational explanation for everything. But after she adopts Rosetta, a stray cat, she's not so sure. As mysterious and magical events occur, Gwen must examine the facts and face the obvious conclusion--Rosetta is a witch. Ruth Ann Phimister gives the main characters unique voices that personify their personalities: Rosetta has a smooth, slow, well-modulated voice that sometimes purrs, sometimes hisses; Dinky, the Shih Tzu puppy who becomes Rosetta's friend and ally, has a slightly Chinese accent and the breathless sound of small dogs; Gwen has a voice that is young, kind, and thoughtful, but very matter-of-fact. Other family members, friends, various felines, and Confucius are also well represented, with distinct and appropriate voices for their age, gender, and personality.
