Mystery & Suspense • 12 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1998

British ex-cop Elisabeth Kennedy, physically and emotionally scarred, lives alone in a bell-tower flat, anguishing over her sister's murder and her own inability to find the killer. Meanwhile, in a seaside dating agency, family members and friends have agendas of their own. This talky psycho-mystery shifts scenes and viewpoints frequently; it's a reader's challenge, but Rula Lenska is up to it. She's believable as the deranged murderer, a quirky 10-year-old boy, a cop with a phlegmy cough, and tough but vulnerable Elisabeth herself. Given the pace and the maze of plot lines and motives, this tape requires careful listening; Lenska sorts things out better than the heroine. J.B.G.
