The award-winning Guidall has a rich, distinguished voice, but it’s too theatrical for an exciting offering like this one. Mind you, he does incredible reading, but he’s too slow and deliberate for this fast-paced, quasi-military novel. While the central characters in this thriller are attempting to rescue a friend kidnapped in Africa, a new U.S. secret weapon is in danger. How these events connect makes for intricate and clever storytelling, which is slowed down only by Guidall’s overly deliberate delivery.
