THE ROAD TO URBAN LEGENDS An Unusual Journey

by | Read by a Full Cast

Storytelling • 1 hr. • Audio Program • © 2001

This is not a professional work. It is a work in progress. This collection, produced by high school students in Hanford, California, is a wonderful illustration of how audio drama can be used as a teaching tool and as an instrument of creativity and expression for youth. These short pieces, based on the authoritative work of folklorist Jan Harold Brunvand, retell familiar urban legends such as "The Babysitter" and "The Mexican Pet" with adolescent glee and detail--meeting the average teenager's minimum daily requirement for the silly and the macabre. Besides showing that contemporary folklore is a great source for story material, this CD delivers an important message: Try audio drama in your schools and communities. The students will thank you for it. You'll hear it in their voices. B.P. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 03]
