FLASHBACK

Mystery & Suspense • 16 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2002

Fans of Barr's persistent park ranger, Anna Pigeon, will enjoy this 11th novel in the series. Set on the remote islands of the Dry Tortugas, 70 miles from Key West, the story explores two mysteries--one historic and one modern--both involving the occupants of the island's fortress, which served as a Union prison during the Civil War. The book's tedious pace is improved by Barbara Rosenblat's excellent narration. Rosenblat presents the modern-day Pigeon with no-nonsense, steely strength. Pigeon's great-great-great-aunt, coincidentally the wife of the fort's commanding officer during the Civil War, is depicted with the vague overtones of a Southern aristocrat. Certainly not Rosenblat's best assignment, but worth a listen. N.M.C. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG/SEP 03]
