Always the understated performer, Alyssa Bresnahan thrills with chills as she unfolds the sometimes grizzly details of crimes and their victims' sins. Hooper sprinkles surprises throughout the story, and Bresnahan never gives them away too soon. Her characters speak with authenticity, using a smattering of accents and intonation with a light but realistic touch.
