amanda bright @ home

by | Read by Laura Hicks

Fiction • 9.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2003

Amanda Bright has two children, and this novel revolves around the fact that she stays home to take care of them herself. Through Amanda's interactions with others, we are exposed to all of society's views on parenthood, especially those on the stay-at-home mom. Laura Hicks is adept at performing a novel without becoming the novel; she provides subtle vocal changes and has a pleasing delivery. The book is easy to listen to, although at times it can be repetitive and a little maddening (Amanda wants to stay home; no, she doesn't; yes, she does. . . ), but that is a reflection of the character herself. Ultimately, this is a satisfying listen, as well as a timely one. L.B.F. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 03/JAN 04]
