SELECTED SHORTS VOLUME XVI Fictions For Our Times

This series does a matchless job of pairing fine short fiction, chosen in part for the dramatic scope it offers an actor, with actors who can do the material justice. The range here is wide, including stories from Jhumpa Lahiri, Richard Bausch, and a wonderful one from Percival Everett called "The Fix,"presented to droll perfection by the series' impresario, Isaiah Sheffer. Kathleen Chalfant's subtle and slyly funny reading of "Enough," by Alice McDermott, about an ordinary woman's passion for ordinary things in life, is superb; likewise, Hattie Winston's reading of Toni Cade Bambara's "Gorilla, My Love" is both brash and poignant.
