Captain William Kite of Liverpool has lost all but one ship to the Yankee privateers during the American Revolutionary War. When he is approached to sail to India and China and make his fortune, Kite takes his ship and his wife, and sails east, only to encounter privation and loss. Terry Wale tells of ships, sails, and men; good times and bad; seas and beaches. At other times, his voice tells of the hearts of men and business, for better and worse.
