He expands the text in so many subtle ways, offering listeners a multicolored, nuanced experience. His Mister is a fascinating terror, whose voice echoes his iron self-control. The Customs and Excise underling on his trail blends insecurity and determination perfectly. Occasions of simple narration in Doyle’s well-paced, pleasant voice are also examples of how such things are done. Beautiful. A.C.S.
