Narrator David Thorpe expertly tackles this complex police procedural featuring London's Detective Inspector Jake Porter and Detective Sergeant Nick Styles. Max Brennan, who was finally going to meet his absent father, is devastated to be stood up and then shocked when his girlfriend goes missing. Thorpe realistically portrays Brennan's friendship with DI Porter. Listeners follow the search of a shadowy figure who consistently avoids capture as the body count mounts. Thorpe excels with Porter's ironic inner dialogue, winning bond with Styles, and grief for his late wife. The best characterizations are those of resentful, gravelly voiced Superintendent Milburn and informant Calum, whose accent is right out of Dublin.
