THE LONELY MEN

by | Read by David Strathairn

Western • 6 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1969

L'Amour continues the Sackett family saga. William Tell Sackett, accompanied by John J. Battles, Spanish Murphy, and the half-breed Tamico, is lured into an Apache stronghold in Mexico on a mission to rescue his nephew. However, his brother's beautiful but scheming wife, Laura, has invented the story to take revenge on the Sacketts. Narrator David Straithairn's voice embodies Big Sky Country as he uses gravelly, raw voices with a slight Western twang for the tough cowboys. Unfortunately, he struggles for female voices, which are mercifully few. Overall, L'Amour's descriptive tale is delivered smoothly, and listeners will travel back in time to doze around the campfire under the stars. S.C.A.
