A successful romance author writes about a successful romance author turned sleuth. The mystery is well researched and filled with salacious characters--any of whom would stab any other in the back just for the amusement of it. The story starts as a murder on a train, The Ghan, traveling deluxe from Sydney to Alice Springs, Australia, and continues with other deaths in the Outback and back at home in Sydney. Stephanie Daniel portrays the characters with verve and delight. She falters not at all when reading male dialogue; she's as credible as a teenaged boy as a society grande dame. Daniel helps us sort out the good from the bad, and ultimately the mad, with subtle shifts in inflection and pitch. B.H.B. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: APR/MAY 05]
