SECRET SMILE

The husband and wife team that is Nicci French has produced this psychological thriller, a story of obsession and terror for a British working woman that could easily be re-titled "The Dark Underbelly of Sex in the City." Anne Flosnik's boldly interpretive performance is breathtaking. She disappears into French's rich cavalcade of characters. When someone begins a phone call with just the whispered name of the person being called, we know exactly who is calling and that something awful is about to happen. Each character is full-blooded and idiosyncratic. With expert pacing and emphasis, Flosnik manages to convey shifts of emotion so expertly that her performance becomes as engrossing as the written words. K.A.T.
