This audiobook will capture listeners in spite of themselves. Protagonist Amy Lincoln is a likable reporter on a quest to find her mother, who abandoned her when she was just a baby. The hunt itself is less interesting than the characters Amy encounters along the way, although some border on the stereotypical. Amy is the type of character who tells the reader at every opportunity how smart she is, but she makes enough foolish choices to keep the action moving, and the end of the novel is satisfying. Carol Monda's voice lends itself well to this story, shifting smoothly from one speaker to another and giving each his or her own life.
