COLD IRON

It's easy to get lost in this medieval tale, reminiscent of "Cinderella," due to Esther Van Doornum's enchanting narration. Tattercoats, an abandoned heiress living in seclusion at her uncle's estate, is characterized with a keen accent and an old-world style. Her friends, servant girl Malkin and goatherd Pug, are equally well done. Although there are many Cinderella elements to the story, Sophie Masson weaves a new and fresh tale inspired with magic, enchanted worlds, and romance. Van Doornum is just right for the task and adds her own bit of magic as a storyteller. As a bonus, Masson's retelling of the original Tattercoats story is at the end of the last CD.
