PUTTIN' ON THE GRITS A Guide to Southern Entertaining

by | Read by Deborah Ford

Contemporary Culture • 4 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2005

Deborah Ford reads her second book, a follow-up to her 2003 bestseller, THE GRITS (Girls Raised In The South) GUIDE TO LIFE. It's difficult to imagine that this entertainment guide will be as successful. Although Ford, a native Southerner, reads clearly with a genuine accent, the content of this sequel is decidedly thin. It seems unlikely that anyone, Southern or otherwise, is unaware of the basics of entertaining that Ford extols. Between her admonishments not to criticize one's husband in public and to wear clean clothes, she tosses in exaggerated "sugah's" and "dahlin's," which detract from her natural GRIT accent. Poor pacing and an air of exhaustion further diminish the narration. J.J.B. © AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine [Published: OCT/NOV 05]
