FOUR CORNERS OF NIGHT

Can an otherwise basically good person learn to live with a period of reprehensible behavior in his past? What does the friend of such a person do when he learns of the other's compartmentalized behavior? Without getting any more specific, these are the fascinating themes of Holden's involving cop thriller and suspense novel. If Stechschulte's reading is a bit on the slow side, the results are positive in two key areas: The languorous pace of the performance is effective in underscoring the introspective nature of the first-person narration, and the unpleasant details of the two child abduction cases at the heart of the story are related with sensitivity and restraint.
