THE LION WHO SAW HIMSELF IN THE WATER

by | Read by Linda Sher, Michael Ashcraft

Children Ages 4-6 • 16 min. • Unabridged • © 1998

This "teaching story," retold by the Afghan writer Idries Shaw, is over 800 years old. In it, Share the lion cannot understand the fears of the animals that run away when they hear him roar. But when he sees himself in the glassy reflection of the water, Share is convinced that another lion has come to compete with him for resources and is himself intimidated. Narrator Michael Ashcroft has a pleasant voice and creates a variety of character voices from the deep rumbling GRRRRR of the growling lion to the falsetto of the little butterfly. Children will enjoy the accompanying book's bright illustrations and listening along to this story from another culture. J.C.G. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/ JUL 06]
