MY GAL SUNDAY

This Mary Higgins Clark confection--more romantic than deductive--is given substance, impact, and sense by narrator Eliza Foss. In four stories, Foss amusingly portrays amateur sleuths ex-President Henry Britland and his young congresswoman wife, Sunday, as they investigate the murder of a secretary of state's wife; the disappearance of a Latin-American prime minister; the origins of a lost, unclaimed little boy; and Sunday's own kidnapping by a terrorist. This irresistible duo, reminiscent of "Nick and Nora," are caught in slim plots and hampered by overly long pauses between sections, but narrator Eliza Foss brings needed zip, lilt, and dramatic coloring to an ultimately entertaining experience.
