THE HEN WHO WOULDN'T GIVE UP & THE OTTER WHO WANTED TO KNOW

Author Tomlinson not only presents moving animal stories, she also teaches young listeners a lot about chickens and sea otters. Narrator Maureen Lipman is outstanding as each creature, whether child or adult. Her delivery matches the actions and words of each story perfectly. Hilda, a hen, is adopted by a school class; they learn to protect her as she does her first chicks. Young otter Pat is full of questions and learns about the difficult lives of animals as modernization encroaches on their world. Lipman's appealing tone keeps things light despite some sobering details. Children will be totally charmed as they hear about two very different animals.
