It’s 1962, and Daisy runs a cafe in Hampshire while her man, Kenny, is in jail. Kenny's brother helps out, but he’s cruel, and his viciousness has to be watched. And then there's 16-year-old Suze to care for. She's run away from her stepfather's sexual advances. Fearful of sex, she’s hopeful when she meets her true love, and Daisy wants it to work out. Daisy judges people with her heart, accepting her friend Vera, a kind, loving prostitute, and rejecting Kenny when she learns of his cruelty. Annie Aldington excels at portraying the characters' voices, as well as the freedom of the sixties and the tensions of South London's underworld, where danger lurks around every corner.
