This charming story, immersed in the folklore of the Louisiana swamps and reminiscent of the “Three Billy Goats Gruff,” tells of the day Epossumondas saves his family and friends from the “great, huge, ugly Louisiana snapping turtle.” Cynthia Darlow tells the tale with aplomb. She confides in listeners as she tells the story, involving them at a deeper level. Her light Southern accent adds to the sense of place. Her pacing starts slowly and steadily but picks up until Epossumondas actually scampers; likewise, her voice starts quietly but builds with the plot until she’s practically shouting. All the characters are clearly and distinctly drawn. A wonderful story, delightfully told. W.L.S. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2008]
