AILERONA

by | Read by Paul Berge

Fiction • 1 hr. • Audio Program • © 2003

Pilot, flight instructor, and Iowa TV personality Paul Berge rhapsodizes about the joys of flying. According to him, "Ailerona" is a mythical place, not in space but in one's heart, reachable only in an airplane. It's the Avalon or Eldorado of aviation. Perhaps inspired by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, the gallant French aviator who wrote feelingly and poetically about flying, Berge describes the exhilaration and deep spiritual dimension of flight. As narrator, he has a good voice, excellent timing, and considerable expressive power. Unfortunately, he gets carried away with his own eloquence. In the end, the attempts to inspire are a bit much.
