Moreover, leave it to Brown to hear the discrepancies in the accounts suspects share with him and his detective cronies. Encyclopedia Brown's shingle is out for business again, and his reputation, and 25-cent-a-day fee, brings many clients. Greg Steinbruner's narration is crisp and even. His steady, deliberate pacing provides time to ponder all the aspects of each case. Even if one listens as intently as one can, Steinbruner's intonation and emphasis give away not a clue.
